Scout Aerial was engaged as a research partner to create a prototype for bushfire detection.
CLIENT: NRMA Insurance, M&C Saatchi & Tricky Jigsaw
Described as a ‘virtual fire blanket’, the system senses and tracks bushfire smoke to provide an early warning signal to minimise the impact of bushfires and potentially save lives.
When smoke is detected, the nodes in a network of sensors communicate via a wireless network to locate the source of the fire.
The project won several innovation awards and the encouraging results of the field tests have led to further exploration of the concept by bushfire scientists.
